Wright Spirit Auction and Dinner sponsors make it all possible

web-columbia-bank.jpgThe CWA Parent Association annouced today the names of 30 sponsors supporting the 2008 Charles Wright Spirit Auction and Dinner. The C’est Fantastique event is scheduled for March 15. The Parent Association has pledged 80% of the profits from this event to the building of the new Language and Performing Arts Center.

Cherry red Prius tops auction list at 48 miles to the gallon

Your turn to fly around the new building

bcra-logo-no-list.jpgBCRA, the Tacoma-based architecture firm that designed the Lower School a few years ago, is now designing the new Language and Performing Arts Center for Charles Wright. The architects have produced an animated study model of the building. It’s your first chance to fly around the building and get a real feel for how this project will transform the campus. C’est Fantastique coming to Charles Wright

auction-invite-pg1.jpgPlans are underway for the 2008 Charles Wright Spirit Auction and Dinner, C’est Fantastique, hosted by the Parent Association. This year 80 percent of the profits will go to building a new Language and Performing Arts Center, a truly fantastique cause. The event will be held Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 5pm in the Tarrier Dome. Invitations have already been sent and the auction catalog will soon be mailed to all those who have returned their RSVPs.

John Long: star of stage and classroom

jlong.JPGJohn Long graduated from Charles Wright in 1964 and returned to teach English from 1971 to 2005. John was a little older than his classmates in that first graduating class of students, so he is officially Charles Wright’s oldest living alum. John has many memories of the language and performing arts programs and he’s keeping a close eye on the new building project.

CWA musical shows heart, brains and courage

dsc_0451.JPGThe Charles Wright Players debuted their production of The Wizard of Oz last night with heart, brains and courage. Based on the MGM movie, the musical includes all the standard songs that made it a classic – Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Ding! Dong! The Witch is Dead, We’re Off to the See the Wizard and many others. Of course, the CWA students and their director, John Forier, have given the show a few unique twists, particularly in the costuming and staging departments, but these additions only add to the show’s charm.

Julie Rains Kangas returns to share memories

julie.jpgJulie Rains Kangas has been an active member of the Seattle/Tacoma vocal arts community for 20 years. She taught choral music at Charles Wright Academy in both the Middle School and Upper School between 1992 and 2004. Julie’s husband David teaches science in the Upper School. Their daughters are current students. Julie was on campus recently and shared her memories of the school’s performing arts program.
