A blog about inspiring creativity in a new Language and Performing Arts Center

Rummage sale accepts designer clothes

Students and teachers weren’t the only ones returning to Charles Wright’s campus last week.  The parent volunteers who run the Wright Stuff rummage sale every fall are back sorting donations at the farmhouse near the exit to campus.  This year’s sale will be November 8 and 9 and all profits will go toward building the new Language and Performing Arts Center.  Organizers hope to raise more than $50,000 on this year’s sale.  It’s the region’s largest rummage sale.  Volunteers gather on Wednesdays and donations are accepted on the farmhouse porch all week.

Parent volunteer Kari Whitney reports:

Volunteers continue to sort rummage at the CWA farmhouse on a weekly basis. The contributions seem to break record levels this year! Thank you to everyone who has given us their gently-used goods and thank you to those who have exercised patience with our packed receiving room that is emptied weekly during Wednesday sorts.

I received a nice email from a new family this year.  They wrote:

I’m a new grandparent. I know nothing about what kinds of things are included in this event.  I understand I can help out on Wednesdays. My specific question for you:  I recently retired from the “rag business,” a designer of high end clothing.  I have a closet full of unworn, new garments and question whether there would be a place for such things at the sale.

Thanks for asking! There is most definitely a place for such items! In fact, this summer we received several boxes of unworn sample pieces from a woman who used to partner in a clothing business. We’re very happy to receive these items, and our customers look forward to finding such treasures!

The sale fills the Tarrier Dome with everything from clothing to housewares, books to sporting goods, holiday décor to office supplies, toys and much more. The best of everything goes into a special limited-access section called “Best” where one can find high-end and new apparel, fine jewelry, re-giftable toys, and so-on.

Please feel free to bring them to Wright Stuff. As you know, we sort, price and pack on Wednesdays during the school day (more days to be added soon!), but our “receiving room” is open 24/7. The Wright Stuff Farmhouse is located in the maintenance lot - the last right-turn before you leave campus.

(I asked the sender if I could blog her email. She responded, “I appreciate your quick response. Please print whatever message you find appropriate. I look forward to being part of the school’s support.” Thank you, sender, for your support and enthusiasm!)
