Charles Wright has a new athletic director this fall.

Casey Jones believes the fundamental role of the school’s athletic program is to develop in every student a strong work ethic. Jones is a former four-sport Charles Wright athlete, a 1966 graduate of the school, and the proud father of two former students. He has taught and coached at CWA for 24 years.Casey wants all students to learn to work well under pressure, to reach beyond what is easy for them to achieve, to value honor and trustworthiness, and to learn how to think and react when challenged physically and emotionally.

The depth of Casey’s understanding of sports and coaching and his deep knowledge of CWA’s culture were two of the key reasons Headmaster Rob Camner offered him the position. Casey participated in football, track, wrestling and skiing as a student and has coached those four sports as well as baseball and basketball.

At the end of the ’89 football season, the year the Tarriers competed in the Kingbowl for the state championship, the Tacoma News Tribune named Casey co-coach of the year.
