For the first time in 16 years, CWA’s varsity girls’ soccer team has won a league title. They’re sharing the co-championship with Seattle Christian, last year’s state champions, and will face the Warriors tonight for the third time this season in a game to determine seeding in the bi-district playoffs.

The 2007-2008 Annual Fund is already halfway through its fall fund drive and two-thirds of the way toward the campaign goal of raising $500,000 to support every child, every day. Annual Fund Director Kerri Wilcox reports the class participation competition between the families of current is really heating up. The second grade is clearly leading in the pack, but fifth and seventh are pulling up close behind.Click on the graph to see how your class is doing.

On Friday night, before the big homecoming game, the CWA Alumni Association will proudly welcome its newest class of inductees into the 4th annual Athletic Hall of Fame: Coach Bruce Miller, the 1972 Football Team, and Fred Smart ’76. The Hall of Fame seeks to honor those individuals and teams who have contributed significantly to Charles Wright’s great tradition of athletics, celebrating the virtues of teamwork, good citizenship, and integrity.

Lower School parents volunteer in the classroom. Upper School parents take their kids on college tours. Middle School parents sometimes feel caught between giving their children the independence they crave and trying to stay engaged with their education.

Daniel Paly, a Charles Wright senior, has been named one of 16,000 semifinalists for the 53rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Paly’s scores on the PSAT put him in the top one percent of students nationally.

Veterans Day is nearly a month away, but it takes nearly that long to get a package to Iraq, so Karen Burdick’s kindergarten class tackled a special project yesterday creating letters and artwork for soldiers on active duty.

Charles Wright fourth graders launched their own podcast this week, transforming a rather typical creative writing assignment into a project that teaches creative writing, public speaking and the skills to read aloud, not to mention a lesson in the power of the internet.
