Wright Back At Ya

The latest and greatest news from Charles Wright Academy

Soccer team co-champions of league

dsc_0016-1.JPGFor the first time in 16 years, CWA’s varsity girls’ soccer team has won a league title.  They’re sharing the co-championship with Seattle Christian, last year’s state champions, and will face the Warriors tonight for the third time this season in a game to determine seeding in the bi-district playoffs.

The News Tribune wrote earlier this year that “Seattle Christian gives Charles Wright two matches a season to compare itself to a program perennially one of the best in the state.”  This year, the Tarriers get three games to prove they’re the real soccer powerhouse in the Nisqually league.

The first game was held in Seattle on October 9.  Both teams entered the contest with perfect 4-0-0 league records.  The Warriors scored early and won that game 1-0, but the Tarriers were not deterred.

Last Friday, the campus was packed for homecoming and the soccer team’s re-match against Seattle Christian.  With the league championship on the line, the Tarrier’s stayed focused and beat the Warriors 3-0.

Tonight, the co-champs will meet one more time to fight for the top seed in the district playoffs.  The Tarriers are determined to make this their first post-season victory on their way to a state championship.  The game starts at 7:30pm at Franklin Pierce High School in Parkland.

The girls’ soccer team aren’t the only Tarriers to bring home a league championship this fall.  Stay tuned for more sports news this week.

UPDATE: The Tarriers put up a good fight but lost in a shoot-out.  The score was 1 – 1 after 80 minutes and two sudden death overtime periods.  We lost 4-3 in shoot-outs.  Fortunately for Charles Wright, this game was only to determine which team they will play first in the bi-district playoffs.  They’ll be back at Franklin Pierce High School in Parkland on Wednesday night for their first game.
