Musicians in the Upper School are becoming entrepreneurs this year as they raise funds for the band’s first out-of-state trip in at least nine years. The 23-member CWA Symphonic Band, part of the Upper School’s instrumental music program, is planning to travel to Anaheim, California, in April to perform at the Heritage Music Festival at Disneyland.

Charles Wright alum Scott Griffin ’79 has won the first Great Santa Fe Trail Horse Race in 160 years. Griffin rode 515 miles from Santa Fe, New Mexico, to Independence, Missouri, in five days and 15 hours. More than 60 riders started the race, but Griffin was one of only eight to finish. He rode seven to 12 hours each day and kept his weight off his horse by standing in the stirrups.

The Charles Wright girls’ soccer team has a big game tonight at Seattle Christian. Their opponents have won eight state championships in 13 years. Both teams are 4-0-0 in league play this season. The News Tribune has a good story about the match up. Click here to read it. Good luck Tarriers!

Extra hours were added to the regular farmhouse schedule this week. In addition to sorting all day on Wednesday, volunteers were working away Monday and Thursday afternoon as well. This will continue up to the sale, so stop by when you have 15 minutes to spare!

The varsity boys’ tennis and girls’ soccer teams continued their undefeated seasons this week. The soccer team has a season record of five wins and one tie, and has out scored opponents 15-1. The tennis team has won eight consecutive matches while dropping only one individual match. The junior varsity volleyball team also picked up a win.

There is nothing unusual about a school encouraging its students to participate in community service or those students electing to spend their time and energy helping homeless families get back on their feet. But like many experiences at Charles Wright, the community service requirement here is broader, deeper and more challenging.
