CWA swimmer signs with University of Wisconsin-Madison
Swimmer Cole Scarbrough, a senior at Charles Wright Academy, signed a National Letter of Intent today to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Scarbrough is a state champion and all-American swimmer.
Charles Wright does not have a swim team, so Scarbrough competes for Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma. He also swims with King Aquatic Club.
At the 2007 state 4A swim-dive competition, Scarbrough won the state championship in the 100 yard backstroke and took third in the 50 yard freestyle. He was also a member of Mount Tahoma’s champion 400 yard freestyle relay team. Scarbrough has competed at the state meet every year during high school and never placed lower than second.
Scarbrough says he chose the University of Wisconsin-Madison “because of their amazing student-athlete atmosphere.”
When he visited Wisconsin a couple weeks back, “the energy from all students at the football and hockey games was amazing; it was a much different experience that I had seen anywhere else.”
Cole also refers to the “incredible” coaching staff their swimming program has. “Many were Olympians and national champions that really know what they are talking about… and the [swim] team has incredible camaraderie.”
Scarbrough has been ranked among the top 16 swimmers in the nation and is has received all-American honors.
Scarbrough was joined at the signing by his advisor, Wes Westby, classmate Benton Hendrix ’08, Upper School Head Bill White, Headmaster Rob Camner, his mother, Tana Scarbough, classmate Phillip Griot ’08, classmate Kelby Schweitzer ’08, Athletic Director Casey Jones, classmate Gracie Peterson ’08 and Director of College Counseling Marc Janes.
