Knowledge Bowl team continues undefeated season

knowledge-bowl.gifUpdate: Charles Wright’s top two squads finished first and third at the Peninsula High School Knowledge Bowl Invitational, competing against one another in the final three-way round.  There were squads of five students at the tournament from Curtis, Peninsula, Lakes, Washington, and Evergreen Lutheran.  Charles Wright’s A team scored 76 points, a significant margin of victory over second place Curtis with 53 points.  Charles Wright’s B squad finished third with 51 points.  Up next: The Tacoma Invitational on February 28 and regional competition on March 1.

Follow the yellow brick road to the Upper School

This week the Charles Wright Players, under the director of John Forier, will present The Wizard of Oz, a musical based on the MGM classic.  There are four performances, including a special Saturday matinee for Lower and Middle School families.  Seating is limited, so be sure reserve your seat in advance.

CWA Chapel open for Ash Wednesday reflections

chapel_detail_01_edited.jpgCharles Wright’s chaplain, Mike Moffitt, serves both as a spiritual mentor and as a member of the teaching faculty.  He inspires and encourages students in their spiritual growth, exposing them to diverse sources of religious wisdom from the world’s great traditions. The goal of this education is to reveal to students the important ethical and spiritual dimensions of life.  On Wednesday, February 6, Mike welcomes members of the Charles Wright community to visit the school chapel as they celebrate Ash Wednesday.

Students toss salmon to learn about the Nisqually

grider-1.jpgSomething fishy has been going on in the third grade classrooms at Charles Wright Academy. 

Teachers Jon Flies and Deanne Trummert are teaching their students about the geography and habitat of the Nisqually watershed which reaches from the Nisqually Glacier on Mount Rainier to Puget Sound.  After field trips to Mount Rainier and the University of Washington’s Center for Sustainable Forestry at Pack Forest, the students recently completed their favorite community service project of the year: the salmon toss.
