Moore shatters school record shooting 29

golf.jpgCharles Wright has had some very good golf teams in the past, but even before the season began, Coach Howard Wouters predicted this boys’ team would be the best.  With just one more regular-season match to play, the Tarriers are undefeated.  They have faced the team expected to be their toughest competition – Chimacum – and senior Geoff Moore has shattered the school’s all-time record shooting four under par 33 at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club.  Read the rest of this entry »

Seniors share their college choices

After months and months of writing essays, filling out applications, research schools, and debating, debating, debating, debating… the Charles Wright class of 2008 finally has an answer. Charles Wright welcomes humanitarian hero

dsc_5836-1.JPGThe Charles Wright community was honored to welcome a true hero to campus on Friday, April 18.  Carl Wilkens, the only American who stayed in Rwanda during one of the decade’s most horrific genocides, addressed the entire Upper School in a morning assembly and spent the rest of the school day with his wife visiting classrooms, meeting with student leaders, and engaging in one-on-one conversations with students.  Faculty and students alike were touched by Wilkins’ story.  He saved the lives of hundreds or perhaps thousands of lives during the genocide 14 years ago.

State champions receive community honors

Nominations sought for Inspirational Faculty Award

cwa-logo-right-stack-rgb.jpegThe CWA Parent Association is now accepting nominations for the prestigious 2008 Inspirational Faculty Award.  The award will be presented at graduation and faculty members consider it one of the highest honors they may receive during their careers.  Nominations may be made by faculty peers, parents, students or alumni through Friday, May 9.

New video documentary on CWA basketball champs

Six Tarrier teams enter spring sports season

tennis_ball.jpgDespite the snow, hail and rain, spring has arrived at Charles Wright.  This is the campus’ busiest sports season with six varsity teams competing in league play and the boys’ tennis team preparing for the state tournament. 

Historically Charles Wright had fielded exceptionally strong golf, tennis and soccer teams, and this year looks like no exception.  The girls’ track team took second last year at the state tournament and they stand a good chance of returning to the podium this season. 

The boys’ track team and the baseball team are just starting to explore their potential this year.

News Tribune features photos, poems and journal entries from CWA Winterim trip

image0-1.jpgThe adventure section in today’s News Tribune features some beautiful photos of the desert Southwest taken by alum Tim Klein, a professional photographer, during Winterim this year.  Accompanying the photos are haikus and journal entries from three Charles Wright students sharing their impressions of the nine day trip.  You can read their words online, but be sure you pick up a copy of the paper to see the photos.  We’ll be adding Tim’s photos to out website too.

Hero of the Rwandan genocide to speak at Charles Wright

wilkens.jpgCarl Wilkens, the only American who chose to stay in Rwanda during one of the decade’s most horrific genocides, will speak to Upper School students at Charles Wright on Friday, April 18, 2008.  Wilkins saved the lives of hundreds or perhaps thousands of children during the 1994 massacre.

Wilkens is the former head of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency International in Rwanda.  At Charles Wright he hopes to help students put a humane face on genocide.  He wants to ensure that the perpetrators, victims and resistors are not forgotten.  CWA faculty hope their students will learn from Wilkens how one person can make a difference in the fight against genocide and crimes against humanity.
