CWA History Camp to examine the role of individuals in history

uncle-sam.gifWho makes history? Why do they do it? Rising sixth through twelfth grade CWA students are invited to attend the first History Camp to find out how ordinary people do extraordinary things and change the history of art, business, civics, education, entertainment, law, media, medicine, military, music, politics, religion, science, sports or style. There are no fees, but enrollment is limited to the first 20 students.

Tarrier girls carry baton to two second-place state finishes

img_9788.JPGThe 2008 Charles Wright girls’ 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay team is the fastest girls’ relay team in Charles Wright history and very nearly the fastest in state 1A track history.  The team of four set a new school record at the 2008 tri-district track meet.  Memorial Day weekend at Mount Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma, they came within a split-second of snagging two state championship titles and setting two new state records. 

There were beaten only by the slimmest of margins by a team that broke the state 1A meet records in both the 4×100 meter and 4×200 meter events.  On Saturday, senior Megan Petersen, freshman Rachael Williams, junior Fallon Staples, and sophomore Diane Lawrence carried the baton to second-place finishes in both the girls’ 4×100 meter and 4×200 meter relay events.

Boys win second straight state tennis championship

image0-11.jpgCWA Boys Tennis successfully defended its state 1A tennis title over Memorial Day weekend in Yakima edging University Prep of Seattle by one point.  After a 19 year drought, CWA boys tennis now has back-to-back state championships.

Three Tarriers advance to state tennis semi-finals

2007-09-19-tennis-team-036_edited.jpgThe first day of the state 1A tennis tournament in Yakima brought mixed results for Charles Wright.  The Tarriers had two boys’ teams in the tournament and both have advanced to tomorrow’s semi-finals.  For the girls, however, only one of three teams remains in the competition and they will have to win two matches to secure a fourth-place finish.

Boys’ golf team takes second at state too

golf.jpgJust a few hours after the girls’ team clinched their second place finish at the state golf tournament, the Tarrier boys followed in the footsteps with a second place finish of their own.  All five Charles Wright golfers finished in the state’s top 36 and Sam McAvoy tied for tenth place in the individual competition.

CWA girls take second in state golf tourney

golf.jpgWith three players in the top 22, the Charles Wright girls’ golf team took second in state today at the tournament in North Bellingham.  In individual competition, Kelsie Atz took fifth place.  She shot a 95 yesterday and a 92 today for a combined score of 179.  Deanna Wade took ninth.  She turned in a score of 100 yesterday and 99 today for a total of 199.  Georgia Wade came in 21st after shooting 102 yesterday and 114 today.  Her total was 216.

CWA girls all advance to final round of state golf

golf.jpgCharles Wright sent three girls to the state golf tournament this week and today all three advanced to the final round.  Only Royal High School had as many players make the cut.  Golf players qualify and compete individually, but their teams score points for the placing of each individual.  The girls’ team is looking for a state championship and sending three players to the finals puts them in position to capture the title.

All five boys make cut for final round of state golf tournament

golf.jpgThe results from the first round the 1A boys’ state golf tournament are in and it’s looking good for the Tarriers!  Today 80 boys played 18 holes in Bellingham and all five Charles Wright golfers made the cut off to play in the final round tomorrow. 

The Tarriers are looking for back-to-back state championships.  Kings and Ilwaco are both sending four golfers to the final round, but Charles Wright is the only school sending five, putting them in a very good position to repeat their success last season.

Go cheer the Tarriers at Mt. Tahoma this weekend

mt-tahoma.jpgA total of 13 Tarriers will represent Charles Wright at the 1A State Track and Field Meet this weekend.  The event will be held at Mt. Tahoma High School in Tacoma, a very convenient location for CWA fans.  Below you will find the schedule for all the preliminary events in which Charles Wright athletes will compete and final events for which they may qualify.

CWA breaks ground on new language and performing arts center
