Tennis team wins league championship
The Tarrier girls’ tennis players are league champions for the second straight year, finishing their season with a 12-2 record. The team was undefeated in their league for a second year. A non-league loss to Fife broke their 21 match winning streak, but left the team all the more determined to return to the state tournament where they tied for third last year.
The boys’ tennis team is also practicing this spring in anticipation of the State 1A Tournament which will be held May 15 and 16 at the University of Washington. They won their league championship during the fall sports season. Competing for Charles Wright will be Sam Finkleman, Marcus Berglund, and David Ham. Dillon Truscott qualified for the second year in a row but, for the second year in a row, cannot complete because the tennis playoffs conflict with soccer playoffs.
The girls’ team suffered an early setback when the school’s top single’s player, Sarika Halanakar, suffered a season-ending knee injury in a match against Washington High School. None the less, the exceptional performance of the school’s doubles teams ensured their league victory.
