Struxness gets 30-year pin, three others retire

struxness.jpgOnce a year, Charles Wright’s faculty and staff gather to celebrate their colleagues’ service to the school at the annual Employee Recognition event.  Pins are awarded to those with five, ten, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years and service and goodbyes are said to those departing at the end of the academic year.

Treasea Miller receives outstanding staff member award

080519teachers_425-1.jpgTreasea Miller, the Middle School secretary and registrar since 2002, received this year’s Chris Steele Award.  It is the highest honor for a member of the Charles Wright staff and mirrors the selection process for the inspirational faculty award which will be presented at graduation.  Miller received the honor at the annual employee recognition event this week.

Alum summits seventh peak

image0-2.jpgCharles Wright alum Charlie Hyde ’70 has completed one of the world’s most challenging feats – summiting the highest peaks on each of the world’s seven continents.  Hyde reached the peak of Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain, on May 24.  Hyde had previously climbed Kilimanjaro, Denali, Elbrus, Aconcagua, Kosciusko, and Vinson.

True Character

I have been involved in sports for most of my life.  Throughout my experiences, I have come to appreciate the opportunities that athletics provides to test one’s character.  You know the feeling – there are five minutes left in the match and your team is losing.  How am I going to make a difference?  Or, there are two outs, with two strikes, in the bottom of the ninth with runners on base – your team is down by one run – will you crack under the pressure and go down on strikes, or will you be strong enough drive in the winning runs?  Many know the feeling that I am talking about: when one is put in a pressure situation and has to prove his or her ability to come through in the clutch moments.
