Rummage Sale this weekend

The countdown is on!  If you like a bargain, then you will love the annual Wright Stuff Rummage Sale.  Quality clothing, books, toys, household items, furniture, sporting goods, antiques and much more will be sold at extremely low prices.

Wright Stuff Rummage Sale
Saturday, November 8 from 8am to 3pm
Sunday, November 9 from 10am to 2pm

The CWA Parent Association hopes to raise $50,000 to $60,000 with the sale to support construction of the new Language and Performing Arts Center.

And here’s the latest word from the volunteers in the Dome:

Thursday, November 6

We are READY for some SHOPPERS! Sure, there’s a little fine-tuning we’ll do Friday, but overall, the entire Dome looks great! I look forward to shopping for myself and for gifts. I also look forward to the crazy fun of watching everyone else shop.

I hope everyone can make it to the CWA campus this weekend!

Come Saturday 9-3 for the best selection.
Visit again on Sunday 10-2 to grab the remainder at 1/2 price!

Wednesday, November 5

The tables in “Best” are dressed and nearly filled! Dare I say we’re ahead of schedule? This is indeed a lucky status, as it will give us time to finish pricing items from projects abandoned in the rush to get to the Dome last week. Phew!

Best isn’t the only fine section – the rest of the “Floor” looks terrific, as well! We still have lots of folding and assembly, but good hopes for a steady volunteer turnout over the next two days should accomplish that.

If you haven’t been by, please stop in when you have a chance! In addition to folding and building, we have lots of opportunities to check for price tags (sometimes things get missed!), dust merchandise, and perform a variety of tasks that help mark our sale as a premier thrift shopping experience.

And don’t forget, there’s still time to work eight hours to earn your way into Friday’s presale…

Tuesday, November 4

Day 4 is like Day 3, but with more accomplished! The “Best” Christmas, garden, vintage, and housewares sections are done, and the Asian, library, and intimates sections are well underway. The clothes are all hung and mostly placed, and I expect they’ll be fine-tuned tomorrow.

I’ve enjoyed learning about the talents of our many volunteers. One mom handles each piece of a Franciscan dinner set with loving care, and details her journey with collectibles since age 18. Another mom talks about her adventures in cooking and entertaining as she arranges large serving platters and margarita glasses. And then there’s the quieter mom who effortlessly transforms a pile of hosiery into an appealing display, clearly demonstrating an artful knack.

Thank you, one and all, for sharing your talents with Wright Stuff and, in a broader sense, the greater CWA community!

Monday, November 3

Some of my Facebook/rummage friends tease me in the morning when I come to the Dome, commenting on my “Kari has sore feet again” status updates. By the end of a day of wandering around Best, my dogs are tired! Fortunately, I have a productive day upon which to reflect as I kick off my shoes and recline. (And thanks for the concern – I’m well recovered by morning!)

Day three of setup was great. Today (Monday) was the first day of walk-in traffic – people who drop by for 20 minutes, a few hours, or all day, and jump into a variety of volunteer tasks. I enjoyed a morning setting up a toys display with Devon, CWA’s new Associate Director of Admissions, while P.K. hung sweaters. After lunch, Tom, a MS and US dad (oh, and my brother-in-law) came by and took charge of an antiques display. Irene, a grandmother of alums, and Nancy, a mother of alums, also worked away at their displays, turning our garden and holiday items into a fantasy vision. And these are just the activities in my small section at the back! Thank you, everyone, for coming to Wright Stuff so eager to offer any kind of help!

Sunday, November 2

It was again pleasing to walk into the Dome this morning and see all the progress we made the day prior. There are clearly treasures that will soon be overfilling tables and made ready for sale!

My section is “Best”, which comprises hand-selected high-end and unique items, valuable jewelry and appliances, and anything brand-new. Today we placed the tables and racks, and began to dress and display the “manly man”, toys, and garden areas. When the entire Best section is complete, it will feel like a boutique with low, low prices. (Think Louis Vuitton purses for $12!)

In rummage slang, we call the two sections of the sale “Best” and “Floor”. Last year one of our leaders laughingly suggested that we should change “Floor” to “PDG”, because though the rest of the items may not be in Best, they’re still “Pretty Darn Good!” We are proud of the items we put out, and are picky about what we sell. (What doesn’t meet our approval is sold to a recycler.)

Please pass the word along to all your friends, especially the ones who don’t typically consider the used market!

Saturday, November 1

The Dome transformation has begun! One can easily see the beginnings of 20,000 square foot marketplace!

Starting with a bare footprint at 9 a.m., volunteers began setting up tables. The new folding tables were a breeze! Crews of parents and teachers worked quickly to unfold the tables and set them on squares of MDF (to evenly distribute the weight from the table and protect the new gym surface). We all raved about the new table situation – not only did they take less than half the time to set up (compared to the boards-on-cross-boards), but they’ll provide a multitude of functions for departments throughout campus!

While the tables were being constructed (half of the setup still uses the old table system), a trio of trucks carted boxes and bags of merchandise from the warehouse. Once the pile was complete (and after a delicious lunch!), volunteers shifted activity to move the merchandise to assigned spots on tables and near racks. By 4 o’clock (quitting time!), we were beginning to open boxes and fold clothes into place!

Thank you, load-in crew – the 40-some of you were terrific!
