Basketball teams off to a strong start on the long road to state

Charles Wright’s boys basketball team wasn’t expected to win the league championship last year but they put together a 22-6 season and won the state championship anyway.  Today the News Tribune predicted they’ll finish third in the league this year behind expected state championship contenders Vashon and Cascade Christian.  With that sort of competition in their own league, the Tarriers will have to work hard to make it back to the state tournament in Yakima, but exceeding expectations is quickly becoming a Charles Wright tradition and one the girls squad is clearly hoping to emulate.  Read the rest of this entry »

Three big announcements from CWA

Charles Wright Academy made three big announcements this weekend.  The first, and most important in many ways, was that classes today were delayed two hours due to the weather.  The second, made at the Lower School Holiday Concert on Sunday and repeated at the All-School Holiday assembly today was that the choral music room in the new Language and Performing Arts Center will be named in honor of Judy Herrington.  The third announcement is that CWA has replaced Get Wright Online! with a new website for the families of enrolled students.  Click here to read more about the Judy Herrington Choral Music RoomClick here to visit the new Enrolled Families section of the CWA website.

Orchestra preps for tonight’s winter concert

Charles Wright’s Upper School choral and instrumental music program will hold its annual winter concert tonight at 7:30pm in the Middle School Commons.  The concert will feature the school’s String Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Symponic Band, Chamber Singers and Academy Singers.  Read the rest of this entry »

Tarriers win all-league honors

At the end of the fall sports season, 17 Tarriers were named to all-league teams in recognition of their outstanding performance in football, volleyball and girls soccer.  An all-league team was not named in cross-country.  The boys tennis team will be named in the spring.  Read the rest of this entry »

Academy Times inducted into National Hall of Fame

Last month Charles Wright’s student newspaper, The Academy Times, became the second Washington state publication inducted into the National Scholastic Press Association’s Hall of Fame, an honor reserved for the nation’s best student newspapers, yearbooks and literary magazines.  Inductees must have earned 10 All-American ratings from the NSPA within an 11-year span. The Academy Times newspaper has earned that rating a total of 14 times in the past 20 years. Read the rest of this entry »
