Choral music students shine

Charles Wright’s choral music students have much to celebrate this winter.  Next weekend the Upper School’s Academy Singers will travel to Portland, Oregon, to attend lectures and concerts, and to sing at several churches and schools.  Meanwhile, two CWA singers have received special honors in the world of music.

In mid-February, Decker Nielson, a Charles Wright freshman, has been selected to participate in the 54th annual Washington Music Educators Association All-State Symphonic Choir.  Nielson, a second soprano, will join 500 other outstanding high school choral and instrumental musicians to rehearse under the direction of world-renowned conductors and perform at Spokane’s INB Performing Arts Center.

A former All-State Choir participant, Kate Ellwanger ’09, also received a special honor this winter.  Governor Chris Gregoire asked Ellwanger to sing the National Anthem at the state capital during her second inauguration.
