Harlem Globetrotters Curly and Buckets visit CWA for a history lesson

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Legendary Harlem Globetrotter Curly Neal and Buckets Blakes, now in his 7th season with the world’s most famous basketball team, visited Charles Wright today for an interview with freshmen Koby Deitz of Steilacoom and Alex Nielsen of University Place.  Deitz and Nielsen are National History Day scholars building an exhibit for the state contest on the team’s founder, Abe Saperstein, and his impact on the desegregation of professional basketball.

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

There are few more quintessential American experiences than playing baseball on a warm summer evening with the smell of hot dogs hanging in the air as you wait for the crack of the wooden bat.  The Charles Wright baseball teams play March through May, the weather is often more wet than warm, hot dogs aren’t generally for sale, and the bats are aluminum, but for players and fans alike, the experience is still as American as apple pie.  Read the rest of this entry »
