Wade takes 4th, boys golf wins 6th, track and tennis Friday
Charles Wrights boys and girls golf teams didn’t repeat their 2008 twin second-place finishes at the state tournament in Richland, but all four seniors in the competition played very well today. Deanna Wade, the only CWA girl to qualify for the state match, took 4th place in Richland. She scored an 88 yesterday and another 88 today for a total of 176. The winner of this year’s state girls 1A championship is a golfer from Chelan who scored an amazing 146, beating the second place finisher by 27 strokes. Deanna finished just four strokes out of second place.
The boys team sent six players to state and three made the cut to play in the final 40 today. As a team they finished in sixth place. Sam McAvoy shot a 144 – 72 strokes both days – to finish in a four-way tie for seventh. He was eight strokes behind the boys champion. Nevis Granum shot a 78 Wednesday and an 80 Thursday for a total of 158 and landed in 31st. Andrew Brito came in 39th with a 162 after shooting 81 both days.
Track and tennis are CWA’s last state events this spring. Both competitions start Friday in Eastern Washington. We’ll begin posting updates to the school’s Twitter page as soon as the first results come in. CWA’s first tennis match, girls doubles, is scheduled to begin at 9:30am and the first track and field event is the boys triple jump at 10:10am. You do not need to be a member of Twitter to check the updates. Just refresh the webpage www.twitter.com/CWATarriers to see what’s new throughout the day.
