The Tri-City Hearld named Ben Olp, who graduated from CWA in June, and Dillon Truscott, a rising senior, to the 1A boys soccer all-state list this weekend. Click here to read the article. The newspaper also named Truscott the state’s 1A boys soccer player of the year. Olp will play at Westminster College next year and Truscott will return for his senior year at Charles Wright playing soccer and tennis, singing in the school choir, playing in the band and, oh yeah, studying. Koby Deitz and Alex Nielsen, both rising sophomores, became the first Charles Wright students to compete at the national level in National History Day earlier this month. The week-long contest was held at the University of Maryland at College Park, just outside of Washington, DC. Deitz and Nielsen competed in the group exhibit category against nearly 100 other state-winning entries and they finished in the top half of their division. Read the rest of this entry »

Charles Wright Academy’s largest graduating class ever, the Class of 2009, was honored at the school’s 46th commencement on Saturday, June 6, on the lawn of the Upper School. The 81 members of this class elected Upper School Math Teacher Jeremy Stubbs as the faculty speaker and they selected Ishmael Stinson, Katie Young and Phil Gardner as the student speakers. Construction of the new CWA Language and Performing Arts Center has reached the finishing phase. The school’s English, foreign language, drama and music teachers are thrilled with their new classrooms, offices and performing spaces. The acoustics of the new facility are particularly impressive.

CWA athletes wrapped up the 2008-2009 school year in Eastern Washington last weekend at the state track and field meet in Cheney and the state tennis tournament in Yakima. The Tarriers performed very well. The boys track and field team took third place and the girls finished eighth. State championship titles were won by Max LaBerge in the 3200m run, Nick Smith in the 800m run, Ishmael Stinson in the triple jump and Rachel Williams, Grace Su and Diane Lawrence and Emilee Bell in the 4×100m relay.
