Each year, CWA’s Model UN team takes on the identity of a UN member nation, debate world issues and solve global crises at national conferences. Through the Model UN program, students learn how international laws are created and conflicts resolved. This month the team participated in a conference at Rutgars University in New Jersey as Vatican City where they tackled the same issues facing the UN General Assembly that week. CWA’s fall sports seasons are now all wrapped up and the Nisqually League has awarded all-league honors to 16 Tarries who played football, girls soccer and volleyball. CWA won two league championships this fall. Here’s a full report on all the teams. Read the rest of this entry »

Update: the 2009 Wright Stuff Rummage Sale was a great success. The Parent Association raised about $50,000 for the Language and Performing Arts Center. This Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30, in the Donn Laughlin Theater, the Charles Wright Academy Players will present Rhinoceros, a play by Eugene Ionesco. “If you’re a fan of French Absurdism, biting social satire, or just Tom Jones crooning (yes… Tom Jones… what could be better than that?), then you really must see this show,” says director John Forier. “ The cast and crew have worked so hard through this flu-riddled preparation period in our ginormous new theatre space to put this thing together.” This will be the first Players Production in the new Donn Laughlin Theater. CWA’s own freshman phenom, Nate Mondou, has returned from Equador after scoring the championship-winning run for the USA’s 14U baseball team in the Pan Am games. Mondou was two-for-three in the gold medal game and scored when teammate Cameron Miller hit a two-out, pinch-hit single in the fifth inning. The go-ahead run completed a second straight come from behind victory for the team as they beat Puerto Rico 4-3 for the title. Read the rest of this entry »

The Tarriers volleyball team made it farther into the post season last year than ever before in school history. Now they’re just one game away from making school history again. With up to 80 Upper School students home sick some days last week, CWA’s athletes are working hard to stay healthy in the fall post-season. The cross-country team has been the hardest hit. The Tarriers dominated league competition all season and the boys team was ranked number one in the state all fall, but at the West Central Tri-District meet last weekend they had to fight hard just to get to state as a team.
