December sports wrap-up

basketballIt’s been pretty quiet around the Charles Wright campus the past two weeks, but while most teachers and students are on winter break the Upper School boys and girls basketball teams continue to practice and compete.  Both squads lost several strong starters last year and this year’s senior class has fewer basketball players than most.  None the less, both teams are proving they can be competitive.

WIAA reclassification leaves CWA 1A but shifts the competition

WIAA-LogoEvery two years, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) redraws the classification lines for high school athletics.  The 2010-2012 classification ranges were finalized this week.  Charles Wright Academy is once again classified as 1A, but there are some significant changes among the teams they compete against. CWA junior to sing at Carnegie Hall

AronRobertsforwebAron Roberts, a junior at CWA, has just been selected for the 2010 American High School Honors Performance Series.  Acceptance to this elite group is a direct result of the talent, dedication, and achievements demonstrated in his application and audition recording.  Next June, Roberts will join other performers from the United States, Canada, and Bermuda for a special performance at world-famous Carnegie Hall in New York, a venue that marks the pinnacle of musical achievement. CWA fifth grader one of the fastest runners in the nation

Jesse-GoldstoneRunning is one of the most popular and consistently successful athletic programs at CWA.  In the past year, Tarriers have won state championship titles in three events and recorded 16 top-eight finishes.  CWA has also dominated the league’s Middle School running events and half the student body in the Lower School belonged to the after-school Running Club this fall.  With all that enthusiasm for running, it should come as no surprise that CWA has on its campus one of the fastest runners in the nation.  Read the rest of this entry »

CWA winter concerts begin this week

photo14[1]Charles Wright’s musicians are hard at work preparing for their Winter Concerts.  All these events are free and open to the public.  Guests are particularly encouraged to attend the Upper and Middle School concerts which can comfortably seat many guests in the new Language and Performing Arts Center.
