Linfield just the beginning for Bura Mwangi

pictureCWA senior Bura Mwangi knows that getting into college isn’t the end, it’s the beginning.  As she searched for schools that would be a good fit for her, she carefully considered her long term objectives.  Her goals are to study business, graduate in the top ten percent of her class, go on to graduate school, and one day own and operate her own restaurant.  It’s an ambitious plan but Bura’s life up until this point has been all about making short term sacrifices to achieve long -term goals, so she’s well prepared to make those plans. Sadlier wins state National History Day title

On Saturday, sophomore Sarah Sadlier became CWA’s very first student to win first place at Washington state’s National History Day contest.  Sadlier conducted extensive historical research over a ten month period and built a museum-quality exhibit on innovation and the marine chronometer, an instrument developed by English clockmaker John Harrison in the 1700s enabling navigators to pinpoint longitude.  Sadlier now advancing to the national competition in Washington, DC, in June. Her exhibit will be displayed on CWA’s campus later this week and the Washington State History Museum has asked to display the exhibit at the museum in downtown Tacoma over the summer. Alex Martin picks Midwest’s Carleton College

AMartinforblogLike many CWA students, when senior Alex Martin began his college search he knew right away he wanted to find a small to medium-sized liberal arts college with an atmosphere similar to that of Charles Wright.  “I knew that I wanted to find a school with an environment that doesn’t feel overly competitive, but rather collaborative, where I can take courses in a variety of academic fields and not feel limited to just one track,” he says.   Read the rest of this entry »
