Pair of juniors named to News Tribune’s all-area teams

A pair of CWA juniors, soccer player Katie Mayer and football player Beau Iverson Jr., have been named to the highly selective News Tribune all-area teams. This honor recognizes the best athletes in the South Sound, regardless of the WIAA classification in which their schools compete. Fall athletes wrap-up a very successful season

CWA’s fall sports season was one of the most exciting and most successful in recent years. The boys cross-country team took fourth place at state with two runners on the podium in individual places. The boys tennis team swept through the league and quad-district tournaments defending their quad-district title and setting themselves up to make a run at their third consecutive state championship title in the spring. The girls cross-country team sent two runners to state, both of whom turned in strong performances. Both volleyball and football also competed at the district level. It was the second district appearance in as many years for the volleyball team. It was the football team’s first district appearance in 14 years. As the all-league honors began rolling in for Tarriers on both team, word came that CWA Head Football Coach Mike Finch took Coach-of-the-Year honors for the Nisqually League. CWA alum advances to NCAA’s sweet-16

The Williams women’s soccer team advanced to the NCAA Sectional Semifinals last weekend after defeating Westfield State 2-1. Natalie Weyerhaeuser ’11 is one of ten Williams freshmen on the 23-woman roster. The team has 12-4-3 overall record this year.  Weyerhaeuser leads the team in shots-on-goal percentage. The team now faces Emory on Saturday, November 19, in sweet-16 action. Read the rest of this entry »

14 seniors honored by National Merit Scholarship Program

Fourteen more members of CWA’s Class of 2012 have been honored by the National Merit Scholarship program for their performance on the PSAT last year.  Three students scored in the top one percent of test takers and eleven students scored in the top five percent. In total, nearly 20 percent of the class scored on the exam in the nation’s top five percent. Read the rest of this entry »

Not too late for Lower and Middle School football

CWA’s 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade youth tackle football teams are looking for players. These teams are welcome to CWA students and children attending other schools as well. Practices are held at CWA Tuesdays through Thursdays from 5-7pm. Games will be played on Saturdays. The 3rd/4th grade team will play their first game September 10. The 5th/6th grade team will play their first game on September 24th. Both teams compete in the Nisqually Jr. Football League. Rachael Williams’ luck holds out for Dartmouth

High school seniors apply to multiple colleges for two reasons: 1) they do not know yet exactly where they want to study; and 2) they do not know where they will be accepted. Do your research, then hedge your bets and apply to a range of schools you would be comfortable attending including a few safety schools, a few schools you’re reasonable certain will accept you, and a few schools like feel like a reach. Ya mahn, we be Tarriers!

Rising CWA sixth graders Hayden Saalfeld, Michael Tucci, Alex Meadowcroft and Noah Schachter competed in Spokane at Hoopfest, a big three-on-three basketball tournament. The first initial of the boys’ first names were arranged to form the acronym MAHN and they wore bright green t-shirts that loudly proclaimed “Ya mahn, we be Tarriers!” with a Rastafarian Tarrier mascot.
