14 seniors honored by National Merit Scholarship Program

Fourteen more members of CWA’s Class of 2012 have been honored by the National Merit Scholarship program for their performance on the PSAT last year.  Three students scored in the top one percent of test takers and eleven students scored in the top five percent. Not too late for Lower and Middle School football

CWA’s 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade youth tackle football teams are looking for players. These teams are welcome to CWA students and children attending other schools as well. Practices are held at CWA Tuesdays through Thursdays from 5-7pm. Games will be played on Saturdays. The 3rd/4th grade team will play their first game September 10. The 5th/6th grade team will play their first game on September 24th. Both teams compete in the Nisqually Jr. Football League. Rachael Williams’ luck holds out for Dartmouth

High school seniors apply to multiple colleges for two reasons: 1) they do not know yet exactly where they want to study; and 2) they do not know where they will be accepted. Do your research, then hedge your bets and apply to a range of schools you would be comfortable attending including a few safety schools, a few schools you’re reasonable certain will accept you, and a few schools like feel like a reach. Rising CWA sixth graders Hayden Saalfeld, Michael Tucci, Alex Meadowcroft and Noah Schachter competed in Spokane at Hoopfest, a big three-on-three basketball tournament. The first initial of the boys’ first names were arranged to form the acronym MAHN and they wore bright green t-shirts that loudly proclaimed “Ya mahn, we be Tarriers!” with a Rastafarian Tarrier mascot. Students receive awards at graduation and awards assembly

Over the years, five awards have been established to identify the qualities we value at Charles Wright and would like to see manifested in our students.  Three awards were established in 1979 to honor: consideration for others; improvement, particularly in the senior year; and enthusiastic support of school activities.  In 1987, a fourth award was added for the senior who best exemplifies the qualities of a Charles Wright student.  In 1998, we added a fifth award for good citizenship.  These five awards were named for the first five CWA headmasters.  Though presented by the Headmaster on behalf of the school, the recipients for these awards have been chosen by the CWA Upper School faculty. CWA presents Lifetime Teaching Award to Steve Daniels

Steve Daniels retired in June of 2011 and was presented with this Lifetime Teaching Award and the annual faculty/staff appreciation event.

For 41 years, Steve Daniels taught and coached at Charles Wright, always striving with humility, dignity and grace to help each student achieve his or her full potential. For so many years, and through so many changes, Steve was a steady rock in our community. He set high yet obtainable goals for his students and made sure they understood his expectations. His great consistency allowed growing minds to learn how to be good students as they fine-tuned their study strategies and built foundations for knowledge. He never gave up on anyone and always held all those around him accountable to themselves and the Charles Wright community. He modeled for all integrity, honesty, kindness and generosity. Emily Harper goes the distance to Colby
