Rachael Williams’ luck holds out for Dartmouth

High school seniors apply to multiple colleges for two reasons: 1) they do not know yet exactly where they want to study; and 2) they do not know where they will be accepted. Do your research, then hedge your bets and apply to a range of schools you would be comfortable attending including a few safety schools, a few schools you’re reasonable certain will accept you, and a few schools like feel like a reach. Khoe Tyner chooses St. Lawrence

Until recently, Khoe Tyner ’11 expected to be cheering in the stands for the Huskies’ football team along with her parents, both alumni of the University of Washington. Although she was accepted at UW and nine other schools, she’s instead heading from her home in Poulsbo to St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, where ice hockey rules. New choral music director arrives at CWA

Rafe Wadleigh is the new director of choral music for the Middle and Upper Schools and the chair of the performing arts department at CWA. He comes to the school with 15 years experience directing choral ensembles, building music programs, and performing. CWA grads accepted to 136 different colleges and universities this year

In a year that set records for selectivity in college admissions, the Class of 2011 experienced remarkable success with their college applications. Students receive awards at graduation and awards assembly

Over the years, five awards have been established to identify the qualities we value at Charles Wright and would like to see manifested in our students.  Three awards were established in 1979 to honor: consideration for others; improvement, particularly in the senior year; and enthusiastic support of school activities.  In 1987, a fourth award was added for the senior who best exemplifies the qualities of a Charles Wright student.  In 1998, we added a fifth award for good citizenship.  These five awards were named for the first five CWA headmasters.  Though presented by the Headmaster on behalf of the school, the recipients for these awards have been chosen by the CWA Upper School faculty. John Lemma named Bayne Teacher of History

The 2011 Stephen F. Bayne, Jr. Chair in History and Ethics was presented to John Lemma at CWA’s commencement ceremony by Board of Trustees Chair Dwight Williams. These are his prepared remarks.

In 1992, the Stephen F. Bayne, Jr. Chair in History and Ethics was established to honor Rt. Rev. Bayne, an educational and spiritual inspiration for the founders of Charles Wright. Nick Coddington receives 2011 Inspirational Faculty Award

Melinda Mazoue, Chair of the Parent Association, presented the 2011 Inspirational Faculty Award to Nick Coddington at CWA’s 2011 commencement ceremony. This is the text of that award:

As a member of the history department and an advisor of several clubs and activities, Nick Coddington brings unquestioned passion, dedication and inspiration to his role as a teacher and mentor. He teaches history not as a series of names, dates, places and facts, but as a series of stories, linked by common themes and starring a cast of intriguing people. He instills in his students not only a strong desire to make the world a better place, but the intellectual ability, confidence and character to bring about that change. Emily Harper goes the distance to Colby
